Terms
What using Compass actually means.
By using this site, you're agreeing to what's below. Read it plainly — the short version is: this is free, general information, not a substitute for professional advice, and you're relying on it at your own judgment.
What Compass is (and isn't)
Compass gives general, source-grounded information about international-student visa status across United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, Netherlands, Sweden, Japan, France, South Korea, Spain, Italy, and Poland. It is not legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship, an advisor relationship, or any other professional relationship between you and Compass or whoever operates it. For anything that affects your specific status — a decision, a deadline you're relying on, an application — confirm directly with your DSO, program sponsor, or a licensed immigration attorney before acting. This is the same thing the disclaimer shown throughout the app says; this page is where it's said in full.
No government affiliation
Compass is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of USCIS, DHS, the US Department of State, UK Visas and Immigration, the Home Office, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the Australian Department of Home Affairs, Ireland's Immigration Service Delivery, Immigration New Zealand, Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, the Netherlands' Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst (IND), Sweden's Migrationsverket, Japan's Immigration Services Agency, the French Ministry of the Interior, OFII, South Korea's Ministry of Justice, Spain's Ministerio de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones, Italy's Ministero dell'Interno, Poland's Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców (Office for Foreigners), or any other government agency. Where Compass cites or links to an official government page, that's exactly what it is — a citation to a real public page, dated and linked so you can read the original yourself — not a claim of affiliation with the agency that published it.
Accuracy and "as is"
Compass is built to ground every answer in official sources rather than guess, and to say plainly when it can't verify something — but immigration rules change, official pages change, and no automated system is guaranteed to catch every change the moment it happens. Compass is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Dates and figures Compass computes for you are only as good as the dates you enter and the sources behind them — always confirm anything time-sensitive against your own documents and your DSO/sponsor.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Compass and whoever operates it are not liable for any decision made, deadline missed, or consequence experienced based on information from this site — including outcomes related to your immigration status, work authorization, or travel. Compass is a free tool provided without charge; use it as a starting point alongside, not instead of, official guidance and qualified professional advice.
Age and children's privacy
Compass covers several visa categories meant for minors (the UK's Child Student visa covers ages 4–17; France's mineur scolarisé visa, Ireland's Child Student Stamp 2, New Zealand's Dependent Child Student visa, South Korea's D-4-3 Child Student visa, Spain's minor-schooling visa, and Italy's pupil-exchange visa cover minors too), so parts of this site may be used by, or on behalf of, a child. If you're under 13, a parent or guardian should be involved in using this site, particularly the Timeline tab's optional date-of-birth field — currently used on the UK Child Student and France mineur scolarisé categories only, for age-related calculations (when status converts, or a new application becomes required, at 18). That field is sent to Compass's server for that calculation only and is never stored — and, a deliberate design choice, it's only collected through that direct form, never through the chat widget, so it never passes through Compass's AI model provider. See the Privacy page for the full picture of what Compass does and doesn't store.
Acceptable use
Use Compass the way it's meant to be used — asking real questions about your own status. Don't attempt to abuse, scrape at scale, circumvent rate limits, or use Compass to generate content for a purpose other than understanding your own visa status. Rate limits exist to keep this free tool usable for everyone; deliberately working around them isn't permitted.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as Compass adds features or as circumstances change. Since there are no accounts, there's no way to notify you individually — the current version is always the one on this page.
